Lake Arthur Wins New Mexico 6-Man State Championship


The Lake Arthur Panthers (8-1) beat defending New Mexico 6-Man champ New Mexico School for the Deaf (6-2) 60-37 Saturday for the school's first state football title in 13 years.

Lake Arthur was led by junior running back Gabriel Rubio, who began the game with a 70-yard kickoff return to give the Panthers an 8-0 lead. Rubio finished the game with 207 yards rushing and five touchdowns on 27 carries, plus he picked up another 107 yards on seven kickoff returns.
