Mayfield Three-Peats in New Mexico's Biggest Class

Make it three in a row for Mayfield, which needed double overtimes to beat Clovis 49-48 for New Mexico's 5A high school football championship.

Mayfield, which has now won 39 of its last 40 games, won it when Clovis missed its extra point that would have sent the game a third extra frame.

Lake Arthur Wins New Mexico 6-Man State Championship

The Lake Arthur Panthers (8-1) beat defending New Mexico 6-Man champ New Mexico School for the Deaf (6-2) 60-37 Saturday for the school's first state football title in 13 years.

Lake Arthur was led by junior running back Gabriel Rubio, who began the game with a 70-yard kickoff return to give the Panthers an 8-0 lead. Rubio finished the game with 207 yards rushing and five touchdowns on 27 carries, plus he picked up another 107 yards on seven kickoff returns.
